I think an important aspect of poetry is free expression and having the ability to talk about things that you can't in everyday conversation. You are able to talk about absurd, strange things that only to you sometimes makes sense. One of my favorite elements of poetry that fuel the imagination with “creative juices” is apostrophe. This element allows you to communicate and address non human or non living things as if they were living with the same characteristics as you and me. I love addressing the sky or water because they are things that surround our lives everyday and see so much. I wonder if they were able to talk what are some of the things they would say. Nature beautifies life and provides us with many sensual pleasures of vibrant colors, sounds and smells.
I would like to share a poem I wrote using apostrophe where I have conversation with an ocean and discuss whats behind its depths.

Oh water smooth as Egyptian cotton
your waves caress my body
and make me feel secure
embraced in between your white caps.

You are as endless as your body
that stretches for miles upon miles,
touching the souls of many like jolly old St. Nick.
Do you ever get tired?

Your bottom slimy as a toads belly
with rocks that texture my feet.
You hold hidden treasures of the past
more complex than Blackbeard's loot.

Tell me all of your secrets
and whats beneath the surface,
From the Greek tales of the sirens
to the tragic fall of the Titanic.
